Travelling Abroad
Vaccinations for travel overseas must be organised well in advance, at least 6 weeks prior to departure. Please print off a Risk Assessment form and complete page 1 of the form. Bring this form with you when you attend the surgery. You can find out your health requirements for your destination(s) by going to the following website www.fitfortravel.scot.nhs.uk/ and typing in your destination(s) on the home page.
Take a print out from the website of what vaccinations you need. Remember that requirements may differ depending on the type of holiday or work you may be undertaking. A holiday spending 2 weeks in a resort will sometimes require fewer vaccinations than a holiday backpacking in areas with few tourists.
Once you have found out about your requirements, make an appointment with the Practice Nurse, by phoning Reception and telling them it is an appointment for travel vaccinations. Please make this appointment well in advance of travelling, at least 6 weeks prior to departure. This is because some vaccinations require more than one injection several weeks apart. When you come for your appointment, remember to bring the ‘Risk Assessment’ form, with the first page completed, and the printout from the website of the vaccinations needed for your destination.
Travel vaccinations are not all provided free of charge on the NHS. We do not keep all vaccinations in stock and some have to be ordered and paid for in advance. Please be aware that no refund will be given once vaccines have been ordered.

Malaria Tablets: Have to be started before you go on holiday. It depends which tablets you take as to when they have to be started and what the cost is. Some types of anti-malarial tablets can be bought over the counter, rather than having to be prescribed, but you can only use certain tablets in certain countries, so please check with the Practice Nurse and on the website.
All the prices of these vaccinations do change, so please check with the nurse or in Dispensary for the correct price
