Register with the practice

Catchment area

Before filling out a registration form, check you are in our catchment area.

You can also find out which GPs you can register with on the NHS website.

Registering with the practice

To register with the practice:

  • collect a registration pack from reception during opening times

When you register, it’s helpful to have your NHS number. You can use the NHS website to find your NHS number.

Following your registration your previous records will be requested. There is normally a delay before they arrive. You can still make an appointment at the Health Centre even if your notes have not yet arrived from your previous practice.

The accuracy of the information you provide us with during registration is therefore very important. The importance of keeping this information accurate is also important within our Health Centre so we also ask for you to please keep us up to date with any other changes in the future.

Temporary registration

If you are normally resident in the UK and are ill while away from home, or if you are not already registered with a GP but need to see one you can receive emergency treatment from the local GP Practice for 14 days. After 14 days you will need to register as a long-stay temporary or permanent patient.

You can be registered as a long-stay temporary patient for up to 3 months. This will allow you to be on the local Practice list and still remain a patient of your permanent GP. After 3 months you will have to re-register as a temporary patient or permanently register with that Practice.

Please note, you cannot register as a temporary patient at a Practice in the town or area where you are already registered.

Overseas patients

An overseas visitor is someone not “ordinarily resident” in the UK, i.e. someone who is a short-term visitor and whose remaining period of stay does not exceed 3 months.

Emergency treatment by a GP can be provided to anyone visiting this country but the rules are rather complex, although they are a lot more lenient than many other countries.

As a general rule to get free NHS treatment you need to fulfil one of the following criteria:

  • Have a life or death emergency that was not due to a pre-existing condition
  • Be ordinarily and legally resident with an appropriate visa
