Since 1st April 2017 the cost of a prescription is £8.60 for each medication ordered and £17.20 per pair of prescription hosiery. Those who are exempt from prescription charges can get their prescription filled for free provided they have a valid exemption certificate. If you are under 16 or over 60 years of age you are already exempt from these prescription charges, and many people with long term conditions are also exempt.
For those who do pay for prescriptions Prescription Pre-payment Certificates (PPC) are available at £29.10 for 3 months, or £104 for an annual certificate. If you have more than 4 prescription items in 3 months or more than 14 items each year by having PCC’s it will be more cost effective. PPCs can be purchased online or over the phone.
For more details on how to apply for a PPC please speak to our Dispensary staff or see the NHS Choices website.
