Counsellor – TalkingSpace

The surgery has an NHS counsellor who attends the surgery one day a week on a Wednesday. Her name is Mrs Caroline Darcy. You need to be referred for this service by your GP, and it may be suggested that you use the Talking Space service first.

Overcoming anxiety and depression using psychological therapies that work.

Most of us have times when we find life difficult: we may struggle to cope with daily routines, become easily upset, have trouble sleeping, feel alone, get panicky, stop enjoying things and feel low.

TalkingSpace offers you the chance to help yourself to cope with life’s ups and downs, feel better and learn your own strategies for keeping well.

We do this by providing:

Information sessions, Telephone support, Psycho-educational classes, Computerised Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (cCBT), Group CBT, Individual CBT, Specialist Employment Support, Information and signposting to other services.

Once you have contacted us we will offer you a telephone appointment. One of our practitioners will call you and together decide how TalkingSpace can best help you. The telephone call will take a maximum of 20 minutes. When you contact us we ask for some basic information about you. 

We also offer help for people with long-term physical health problems via our Talking Health service.   For some long term physical health conditions 50% of people will also have difficulties with depression and/or anxiety. People with long term physical health conditions (such as heart disease, diabetes, stroke and chronic fatigue/ME) may find psychological therapies helpful. They may have improved physical health and mental health.
